The Windlass Battlecry! Orleans Axe has a sharpened axe head and langets forged from 1065 high carbon steel; it was tempered to possess a hardness in the low 50s HRC. The axe head and langets are treated with an antiqued, battle-worn blued finish. These components are pinned and riveted to a haft of blackened hardwood.

Windlass Orleans Battle Ax I received the Orleans Battle Ax. I am very impressed with its overall quality and finish. It was also very neat to get a letter of authenticity showing the date it was made, the smiths name and number of years he has forged (22 on mine) and the master smiths name who signed off on everything. My only reason for four stars in it has a round haft instead of a square one. But you can choke up on it some and get a partial grip on the long langets which help a lot.

Great battle axe I really like this battle axe from Windlass – were I to actually to go into battle, I’d feel confident with this weapon. The blade is just the right size, large enough to chop through flesh, bone and the armor around it, but still light enough to quickly wield. The langets are not simply for appearance’s sake, but are fully functional. They really add strength without adding too much weight. And I especially like the black coating. I own many aquariums, and the humidity in my home is always quite high. While I am in a constant battle with rust on all my other weapons, this Battlecry! series axe shrugs off moisture. It’s as rust-free as stainless steel but with the strength of carbon steel. I also find it attractive – in fact, I wish ALL my weapons had the same black coating. The round handle (all my axes have round handles) aids in the handling of this well-balanced piece. All in all, this axe is worth a lot more than I paid for it.

Best Axe for the Money I love this axe. Well made, and not unwieldy. Its a bit heavy in the main chopping blade, but I find it handles well. Has a cool treatment on the metal parts which helps prevent rust and maintenance is minimal after a good clean up from the shipping oil. The only negative is that the haft, while adequate is not the absolute best wood. But mine didn’t have any major knots or compromising flaws. This axe is functional and an excellent value. The spikes are nice, and it handles especially well in the reverse. For the money, I would highly recommend it.

Orleans Battle Axe I got the axe and was very happy with it, the black color looks great on it and its well made. Mine has a slight bend to the blade but otherwise its fine. Its not to heavy nor light, well balanced. Its dull even though it said it was sharp, the spikes are sharp but not the blade, which is fine i can easily sharpen it. The metal going down the wood handle was a little far apart from the wood but still holds well. Its not loose at all. A good finish, and a good axe.

One deadly War Axe! I am a small collector of edged weapons, I have swords, knives, spears, axes and other items (helmets/shields/period clothing etc). I do buy a good percentage of my items from Kult of Athena, I saw this ace and I thought it would make a great addition to my small collection, when it arrives I was very surprised at its quality and size, I had pictured it smaller, the head was quite sharp, so we’re the points! I only purchase items that are rated “Battle ready”, this axe is ready for war! SHTF events, Zombie apocalypse etc LOL this was truly a great purchase for the price! It is still currently in sale, I strongly suggest that you should add one to your collection, you will not regret it!

All options on the table with this axe! Careful where you swing this deadly axe! might accidently hurt your own guys behind you; that is just how deadly this axe is. my first and best axe in my collection!

The perfect axe for Fighters and Warriors! It has been about three weeks since I received this axe, and I remain impressed with it. This axe has a commanding presence to it, and although slightly unwieldy with a one-handed grip, it handles beautifully with a two-handed grip. It has handled every target I have thrown at it, from a clean cut through cardboard, to a heavy chop into a tree trunk, with ease. If your have even the slightest interest in axes then your should really consider this axe.

One bad axe This things great tips are razor sharp and it’s heft gives some nice power to it the craftsmanship too is very nice for the price you really can’t beat it.

Awesome design. Poor execution. This axe is really cool and it feels pretty nice in the hand. The only real problem with it is everything else. I did not realize the geometry would be so fat. The only things even remotely sharp on this axe are the very points. If you order it, definitely get the sharpening service.

The top is warped to one side too. I might return it. It’s a really cool axe though. Think of it as a really thick and heavy cold steel machete, that’s basically what it is.

it’s covered in this weird stuff that turned my hands black too, not your typical oil. The axe head also has a scratch on the black finish on one side.

    Design – 5 stars
    execution – 2 stars

Like I said though, it’s a really cool axe. So conflicted.

Mixed results The head is a good design, the handle is soft, open grain junk wood. The langets are strap iron hammer welded to the head and aren’t even Inletted to the shaft. The bottoms of each Langer are sharp and pointy and a safety hazard. Mine has blood on it now.
From the head up it’s great, from the head down it’s a cheap failure.
